39th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Final: Shepherd Dominates McEvoy 5 and 4 to Claim Title at Montclair

Top seed Ivy Shepherd of Peachtree City, Ga. capped a dominant week at Montclair Golf Club with a 5 and 4 victory over sixth-seeded Catherine McEvoy in Thursday's 18-hole championship match to win the 39th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. Shepherd was in control throughout the bracket, posting wins of 6 and 5, 1 up, 2 up, and 5 and 4 en route to the title, and never trailed in the final against McEvoy, who had stunned co-medalist Emilia Doran in Wednesday's semifinals. McEvoy's run through the bracket was one of the week's best stories, as the Met Amateur champion rallied from a 7-over 77 in the opening round of stroke play by firing the championship's low round of 66 to make the cut, then knocked off Jensen Jalufka and co-medalist Doran to reach her first USGA final.
