Smith Dominates Again, Vogt and Bailey Advance as U.S. Mid-Amateur Semifinal Field Is Set at The Lido

Nate Smith of Tetonia, Idaho, delivered the most lopsided quarterfinal result of the day, dismantling Parker Edens 6 and 5 to reach the semifinals of the 45th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at The Lido. The 45th seed has been the tournament's most dominant player since match play began, having beaten three-time champion Stewart Hagestad 5 and 4 in the Round of 32 and fourth seed Matthew Paradis 3 and 1 in the Round of 16. Mikel Martinson of Throckmorton, Texas, ended Sand Valley caddie Matt Hutchins' dream run at his home course with a 3 and 2 win, setting up a Smith vs. Martinson semifinal at 1:30 PM ET. On the other side of the bracket, Matt Vogt, the Indianapolis dentist who set the Indiana State Amateur scoring record at 17-under this summer, knocked off 2008 U.S. Amateur finalist Drew Kittleson 4 and 3 to reach his first Mid-Am semifinal. Andrew Bailey of Cleveland, the No. 3 seed and two-time Ohio Amateur champion, beat Grady Brame Jr. 3 and 2 to stay alive as the highest remaining seed.
