February 2026

What we are steaming on this month:

We first wanted to thank everyone for the support of our new sister brands juniorgolfHQ and seniorgolfHQ. Bringing these channels to life has been really fun and we look forward to watching them grow. If you have not already please give them a follow across IG, X, and subscribe to their newsletters.

Initially we thought we would have some January golf to report on! But the winter weather had other ideas and forced The Tree Farm Invitational to be rescheduled. The team there is working on updated dates and we will keep you posted as we learn more.

Looking ahead into February we get one of everyones favorite events of the year with the Gasparilla Invitational. It will be an exciting championship with a revamped golf course which was shut down just days after the conclusion of the 2025 event. More to follow in our preview below.

You’ll notice a new section in the newsletter called “Worth the Detour.” One of the great parts of competitive mid-amateur golf is the opportunity to experience some of the best courses in the world. Often, mid-ams will build in an extra round or two when traveling for a tournament, and we wanted to lean into that idea. Worth the Detour will highlight some of our favorite courses, pro shops, and golf culture spots that are perfect additions to any trip. We are lucky enough to partner with Holderness & Bourne and bring this content to life!

As always, this month’s issue is brought to you by Forme. If you do decide to buy anything from them, please use our code MIDAMHQ at checkout for a 15% discount. Thanks, as always, for the support. Now onto the newsletter!

The Gasparilla Invitational

February 19-21, 2026

Defending Champion: Scott Turner

The 2026 Gasparilla Invitational, set for February 19–21 at historic Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club in Tampa, returns for another year as one of the premier stops on the mid-amateur calendar. Now in its 71st edition, the 54-hole stroke-play championship consistently draws an elite national field, blending seasoned contenders with rising talents eager to etch their names alongside past champions. With tight fairways, demanding greens, and winning scores often decided by razor-thin margins, the Gasparilla remains a true test of patience and precision.

Tournament week begins with the always-competitive Monday qualifier, offering players not already exempt a chance to earn their way into the field. The 18-hole shootout has long been a proving ground, regularly producing qualifiers who go on to make serious noise once the championship rounds begin. It’s a hallmark of the event that reinforces the Gasparilla’s reputation for opportunity, depth, and drama before the first official round is even played.

This year’s Invitational will also debut the newly remodeled Palma Ceia course, fresh off a comprehensive renovation completed in late 2025. The update blends classic Donald Ross character with modern enhancements, including rebuilt bunkers, refreshed greens complexes, expanded teeing areas, and strategic changes to several key holes. The result is a course that looks familiar but plays sharper, demanding thoughtful shot-making and rewarding disciplined execution which is a fitting stage for one of mid-amateur golf’s most respected championships.

Scott Turner will be your defending champion and we will see if he can add his name to a rare legacy of back to back champions. Good luck to everyone involved and midamgolfHQ will be on site to bring you all the action!

Worth the Detour

Apogee Club is quickly establishing itself as one of the most ambitious private clubs in the country. Set across roughly 1,200 acres in Hobe Sound, Florida, Apogee is intentionally built around golf and the member experience—not residential development. The club features three distinct courses, expansive practice and performance facilities, a short course, and plans to add a 12-hole, drivable par-4-only course, further cementing its commitment to pure golf.

The newest addition, the North Course, was designed by Kyle Phillips, whose résumé includes acclaimed layouts such as Kingsbarns and Yas Links. Phillips’ work at Apogee emphasizes natural movement, strategic options, and a timeless aesthetic. An out-and-back routing gives the North Course a classic feel and sets it apart from the club’s other layouts, offering a thoughtful and compelling contrast within the property.

And then there’s the vibe which is perfect for mid-ams. Apogee feels like a golf fantasy land, complete with great food, drinks, and the kind of relaxed energy you want after a long day on the course. The pro shop is elite and worth a visit on its own to load up on H&B gear of course! And if you’re lucky enough to stay overnight in one of the villas, you can even take advantage of the lighted par-3 course after dark.

A mid-am event here someday? We’d happily make the detour!
