Patterson Tops the Giles Through 36 as Saturday Reshuffles the Leaderboard

Brett Patterson takes outright control at 6-under through 36 holes, with Stephen Behr surging into a tie for second and Ben Reeves answering an opening 83 with the round of the day.

Brett Patterson took outright control of the 2nd Annual Giles Invitational on Saturday, posting an even-par 72 to move to 6-under for the tournament and a two-shot lead through 36 holes at Kinloch. Behind him, the leaderboard rearranged itself in a hurry. Stephen Behr's 5-under 67 vaulted him from T16 into a tie for second at 4-under, joined there by overnight leader Matt Vogt, whose 75 backed up his opening 65 and sent him sliding from the top. Brad Nurski sits alone in fourth at 3-under after a steady 70, and former U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Scott Harvey shares fifth with Jordan Utley at 2-under.

The chase pack runs deep. Five players are tied for seventh at 1-under: Sam Beach, who carded a 69, plus Ryan Terry, Brinson Paolini, Evan Beck, and our pick to win, Christian Cavaliere, who shot a quiet 71 to stay in striking distance. Will Davenport and Connor Doyal share T12 at even par, also within range. The round of the day came from way back: Ben Reeves followed his opening 83 with a stunning 6-under 66, a 17-stroke turnaround that climbed him 36 spots to T30 at 5-over. Nate Smith made his own jump with a 69 (78 to T19), while Matthew Lowe (No. 22 Mid-Am) went the other way with a 77 to drop from T4 to T19. With Patterson out front, Behr and Vogt close behind, and a logjam of proven mid-amateurs between 1-under and 3-under, the final round at Kinloch sets up as a fight to the finish.
